Crows having Lunch

Some left over scraps from the kitchen today enticed the crows down from their merry heights...

The Maggie knows it's place!

Maggie left drooling from above lol

Off he pops

Oh that sausage looks delicious

It's nice to have the crows down for a wee change other than to chase Jock the Sprawk ;-)

Cheers Mike....its strange as I have 3 crows aswell lol...usually see them up in the trees at back of garden or out the front on the street

They do seem to be very social grouping birds. I'll have a nose around and see what I can glean, because I know of two other crow groupings, of three and if there is any significance, no matter how small or valid.

  • Well if am driving to the next town I usually see loads of them in trees.....I shall look forward to your findings...no point 2 of us working hard lol

I hadn't forgotten, but it was an interesting trawl through lots of superstition, folklore and legend.

Apparently seeing three is supposed to be lucky, but that's the best I could find.

Not even good old Wikipedia gave much away!

    Three crows

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_crows

    Parliament of crows

Picking trusted webpages didn't reveal much, so my guess is as good as anyone else's, but I think you'll like the wee children's song I stumbled across, and the link to it if you're interested.

    Three Craws

    Children's Song

    You're welcome.

I'd never heard or seen the song before, but I knew you'd like it.

I should also say, Mrs PR was involved, to try and use different search phrases and ways, and we both found more or less the results.

There was a heck of a lot of American stuff, which more or less was the same as the UK based material, but it was interesting, and I do enjoy reading folklore stuff.

  • Oh give my thanks to Mr PR aswell then...hope you both had a laugh trying to sing it ;-)

It will be one to sing to the grandkids one day other than coulters candy lol

Post edit...I actually remember singing that song when I was in primary school  we went to hamilton mausoleum to sing as it had an echo that lasted 15seconds one of the longest in the world...30 wains singing out of key...just magic lol

  • Our "resident " Crows seem to stay in a group of three most of the time too but without having them tagged in some way it is hard to say if it is the same three all the time. I recall hearing Mikes poem sung by a female folk group a while ago, it may have been the Unthanks I'm not sure. Corvids do show up quite a bit in Northern folk songs one of my old favourites was Twa Corbies by Steeleye Span, showing my age s bit thereGrin

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
