This morning

Brrrr, lovely in the sunshine today but cold in the wind.

Lot to learn

  • I'm afraid nowadays what with losing part of a lung and a lot of worn out joints and Crohns Disease short easy walks are my limit. Luckily where we live that still means I get time sat around on the hill watching upland birds. I certainly don't think I have a missed a lot of what I wanted to do

    Pete

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can

  • Still hoping to see a few more forumates at Leighton Moss meet up this end June and can guarantee flat (easy as you want) walks (no hills) and a cafe for refuelling stops. !! can we tempt anyone ? !!

  • It's very tempting Hazel bur we're not sure what we are doing holiday wise yet but it is possible for us to do it in a day if Chris is up for it or we have some friends in Milnthorpe who would be happy to accommodate for a couple on nights. At the moment our next target is a week in Northumberland starting 19th Feb. It's a family do so daughter, son in law and 3 grandsons, a bit of an enjoyable madhouse sweek but we will grab plenty of birding time.

  • If you can manage to get there with Chris it would be great to see you both Pete; apart from this trip we haven't planned anything this year, still waiting for things to settle down further and although I'm beginning to sound like an old record stuck in a groove. LOL ,..... I still have to get my eyesight sorted or I won't see any birds at LM in June. !! Meanwhile, enjoy you family get-together Pete, sounds just the ticket; I would have to get a plane to Australia to reconnect with my family so not booking that one just yet !

  • Hope you can get your eyes sorted, I'm afraid I am struggling with my Macular Degeneration which varies at times I think light is a big factor. There is also a cataract in one eye but they will not operate on that unless things get real bad because if that goes wrong it is my only working eye so I would be totally blind' As it is I am now just short of being classed as sight impaired so making the best of what I've got.

Sorry to hear that Pete, I cannot grumble about things as I'm sure mine can be sorted to a satisfactory level even if I still need to wear weaker glasses at the end of lens replacement. I'll be happy if I can reduce the minus 6.5 diopter in each eye (probably worse now as that prescription was 15 months ago) so I am able to enjoy birdwatching and photography once again without reaching the limit of what the binoculars and cameras can be adjusted to. I also have early cataracts too but will have to pay privately for treatment despite very poor vision, I get frustrated missing so much when out birding but I have to remember others like yourself that have added complications. I'll let you know how I eventually get on once I make an effort to get it sorted. Fingers crossed ! I have a birding acquaintance who goes to Leighton Moss who has MD and has undergone various surgery/treatments and he was due to have further surgery in Lancaster the week after I saw him so hopefully they have improved his vision, As we got older it feels like the wheels are dropping off our bus one by one. ! I keep reminding myself, I still have vision no matter how poor it is.

  • Definitely tempted Hazy, will be asking you for dates etc as soon as I get myself back into living after these last two years!!!!!!
I think Australia opened up it's borders this week too. I would be thinking of going over but my friend has a hospital appointment in March so they won't be up to a visit just yet.

It wouldn't be right if we all liked and did the same things.

I'm still hoping to make it for a day, overnight is still something I'm exploring for suitable places at sensible costs since my accident.
