Best Food To Feed Starlings

They'll have a go at everything Lilly, suet nuggets are a favourite here. Only thing with starlings is that they can be a bit of a bully when it comes to food sources and other birds

As much as they are lovely birds to get in the garden they are greedy birdies and soon a few ends up loads lol Suet and fat balls seems to be their food for choice.

Also, they chuck the food everywhere, so depending on your ground floor cleaning routine, you may be asking for a bit of trouble, unfortunately

Hi PimperneBloke, thank you for responding. I kinda noticed from a camera video how they can be a bit of a bully which is unfortonate. Okay, I have put out sunflower heart seeds (not the black ones) in a small dish along with some water in another dish as I didn't have any out for them yet. I have put a tiny amount of dried mealworms inside the dish with sunflower hearts so it sorta persuades them to check it out lol.

hiya, yeah i have noticed that they are messy eaters its brought in other birds to the lower ground that I've never seen before. Like collared dove pigeons and it even brought Wrens to the feeder today. They both lap up the starlings mess luckily on that part.

Very true PB...which also attracts pigeons to clear up the mess and then when the youngsters come along....Oh a will never forget that noise...screaming to be fed lol!!

I did have fatballs out but they don't seem to gravitate towards them, unless they like full on quality ones? The ones I have are from B&m but instead of throwing it away I've tried a mixture of foods from various stores. The ones that have brought life to my window is food from Wilko.

I don't suppose they do care about what shop it comes from, but defy quality they might haha.

Not sure what you mean by footballs, but a lot of people have had success with home made pastry with added stuff in, so maybe your footballs could be broken down and incorporated into that? (Save wasting them!) I'm sure if you search pastry in the box there'll be a recipe somewhere, I know Hazy has done one, several times

EDIT: Ohhh... fatballs lol...... yeah, you can cumble those into the pastry mix :o)

Looking at your photo in the other thread, you could probably stick the pastry along the fence, and up the fenceposts, to give a view from the window of any takers :o)

Oooh I'll be sure to give that a go by crumbling them up and putting them in with a pastry thank you PB. Haha sorry i saw that it said footballs after then corrected it. Spell check is on and rather irritating cos its wrong lol!
