Mini Murmuration Long Melford

Lovely pics Tony, there are a few around me here but not in that number.

I love seeing Starlings doing their aerobatic display even when it means standing around in cold exposed places. We are lucky enough to have two very good sites for Starling roosts within a few minutes drive from home, the last one we visited just over the Christmas period held what we estimated as about 200,000 birds and only 8 of us watching it. Certainly one of our 2021 birding highlights.

Thank you Gaynor its the first time this has occurred at this site and the first murmuration for us in 2 yrs. I just love watching them wheel around the sky and it was great to see a hundred or so people staying on the verge watching it all. The village hall car park was full.

Although it was a relatively small flock Pete it was still great to watch and only 2mls from home. We have seen quite a few over the years from Minsmere down to Ham Wall where we saw a 1,000,000+ about8/10yrs ago.

I remember reading about the Ham Wall one Tony, a few years ago we had o ne that peaked about 600,000 and caused traffic problems on the A1M at Scotch Corner. The next year lot of the trees they were using disappeared with new development so that stopped but it was maybe quite dangerous. at the time
