Day 2 up at Silverdale after a disappointing lack of sightings yesterday. This morning it was bright and sunny so decided to head to the salt marsh area first. Mainly black-headed gulls but did see a handful of Avocets, distant Little Egrets and Black-tailed Godwits.
Not really what I was expecting to see wading LOL
then one tried to join us in the hide !!!
Black-headed Gulls were plentiful ....... I rather like them with their white eye ring, gentle amber eyes and chocolate head ;)
this cosy couple were bill to bill, one coaxing the other to regurgitate some food !
Some places need an extra special effort to reach when it comes to preening ......................
looks like this one is standing on a fish with a goose head !
land this one is landing on full speed with tail stream !!
Whoaaaah !! heading off course at full speed ..............
(I haven't got a clue where planet Jupiter came from - it wasn't anywhere in photo edit ! ) spooky !
and managed to land off the runway !
The Audrey Hepburn of birds next...........the Avocet
2 Oystercatchers arrived - this was the tall lanky one with two carrots for a bill !
the path to the salt marsh where the reeds have grown so tall you can't see the birds they are so well hidden !
and yes the sky was that blue this morning :)
Lovely photos Hazel, including the 'inquisitive' cattle, but then I do have a bit of a soft spot for cattle, having worked with both dairy and beef cattle as a teenager.
I often like quite bird days, it seems to give the insects a chance to shine, if shine is the right word.
