According to RSPB: They were introduced to the UK from China and have become established following escapes from captivity.
If you do a google search you will see they have been seen for a while in The Leven which flows into Loch Lomond

A beautiful male Mandarin, they were brought in for the private collections but escaped ones have gone feral and as Linda says they are breeding in small numbers. We have some here in the Yorkshire Dales and they always cheer a days birding up.
