Just starting off with a link to last years thread here https://community.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/f/all-creatures/201672/dazzling-damsels-and-dragons-2019#pifragment-4285=1
About a week ago the large Red Damsels arrived
& then yesterday caught a glimpse of a Broad Bodied Chaser
it then flew off across a field.
Happy hunting & stay safe all.
Something else I'm missing out on, my fix of banded damselflies!
The way things are going, it'll be next year for me at the earliest....
Hello, would anyone be able to confirm (or otherwise) whether this is a Broad-bodied Chaser ?
It's just appeared on the (new) garden pond, gave the impression of being short and stubby but still active and agile, and seemed to be coming in to lay eggs - without landing, ie. hovering
Many thanks
Jon

I think so, Jon, although the photo isn't very clear to be 100% certain. Presumably, a female if it was egg laying.
Azure damselfly (my grateful thanks to Tony ) and a Large Red
on closer inspection this large red was having lunch .............
I think the blue damselfly is an Azure Damselfly. Hazel. The Common Blue is the only blue damselfly (I think) which doesn't have the coenagrion spur on the thorax. At the risk of being a nerd I've marked it on your photo. LOL Can be tricky to tell apart unless you get a good view.
Nice captures - hope the Large Red enjoyed its breakfast.
Oh, thanks so much for that Tony and the ID tips which help greatly although I will probably forget again in time lol much appreciated.
Who is up for a game of "Spot the Dragon" ?
Golden-ringed seem to the Dragonfly of the day at the moment but they are not being very obliging at being photographed - the one in my garden is leading me a merry dance.
Camo Queen (not my garden resident )
