Hi All, I took an executive decision & decided to amalgamate the Butterfly & Moth threads which may make it easier to find if it's used more!
These are the old threads from 2019 Beautiful butterflies https://community.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/f/all-creatures/200195/beautiful-butterflies-2019#pifragment-4285=1
& Mostly Moths https://community.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/f/all-creatures/198118/mostly-moths-2019/1273216#pifragment-4285=1
To start us off here are a few from the recent traps & wine rope,
this is a lovely Satelite from the 8th january

I've had a white butterfly too, feeding on my Buddleia
Also a Meadow Brown
Resting on the Geranium after feeding
(Pardon the Scottish Accent)
Thanks Wendy and Linda It is Linda! Very lucky to capture the Brown Meadow with its wings open, as I'd originally thought it was a Gatekeeper when its wings were closed
Did actually set up moth trap last night ... absolutely inundated mostly with micros but a few biggies too ...
Star was this Oak hook-tip
Close second male Gypsy moth with his magnificent antennae
It was a night for multiple Brimstones
Always pleased to see Tree--lichen Beauty
And Lime-speck Pug
Couple of old favourites
Least carpet, so delicate & pretty
No moth trap complete without Caddisfly
A fair few 'brown' moths which I need to edit & ID ... very rusty these days!
Won't run a trap tonight as only just got rid of the last hangers-on! See what tomorrow brings, another warm one methinks!
