Hi All, I took an executive decision & decided to amalgamate the Butterfly & Moth threads which may make it easier to find if it's used more!
These are the old threads from 2019 Beautiful butterflies https://community.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/f/all-creatures/200195/beautiful-butterflies-2019#pifragment-4285=1
& Mostly Moths https://community.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/f/all-creatures/198118/mostly-moths-2019/1273216#pifragment-4285=1
To start us off here are a few from the recent traps & wine rope,

A male Vapourer moth, I think Tony. Lovely pic. Well done on painting your garage front!

I'd probably have used a roller, or brush, but to each their own :o)
Hi.
Where would you suggest visiting in East Anglia to see old world swallowtail butterflies? I saw a massive colony on Lake Baikal once, but I didn't properly comprehend what it was. Had I see what I am sharing in the photo now I would have grown attached for at least ten minutes as I took multiple pictures of them. Thanks! Gleb

Me neither Wendy. I do feel for the flightless female though...
I've been keeping an eye on a hairy, dark brown caterpillar, thought originally it could have been a Ruby Tiger but now I'm not so sure as another, lighter and smaller one has 'joined it' on a dandelion - could they both be Buff Ermines?
Also, two of the same green caterpillars were on another dandelion, just over an inch in length
Looks good for Buff Ermine Sandra ... not sure on second one & a bit late to search now, will try again in morning!
Edit: Pop in pot with dandelion leaves & see what emerges from pupa!
'Course I did Sandra! Lol Amended now! I came across Small Skipper cat images on google too, no personal experience but looks a possible candidate ... only one way to be certain!!
