Add your "Odds & Sods" here thread ... 2020

Starting with a first for me ... Sparrowhawk in neighbour's garden here in quarry, only ever seen a seemingly lost youngster many years ago!

Grabbed ID vid footage through d/glazed door, then battery died & by time I'd replaced it to go outside for better res a delivery driver stopped next door & frightened the bird off!! grrrrrr

Hope it's a one-off for the sake of my Spadger horde!

  • Great shot Tony, amazing detail of the Sparrowhawk, they are such striking looking birds, shame about the poor bird who became dinner and I'll go with Wendy and blackbird. A magpie took a juvenile blackbird here from the garden below just over a week ago.
@ Gaynor, chaffinches are sweet looking birds, always a pleasure to see photos of them. Looks like its helping with the gardening lol

Paul:-) I expect you were hoping for a Kingie to perch!!

Now that would have been nice, Gaynor, but sadly Kingfishers generally seem to avoid me. :-(

Lovely to see your wee Chaffinch. We seem to have more of them in the Garden this year, or it could just be that with all the chaos this year, I've just been at home more often to notice.

Tony: Lovey Sprawk shot, we generally only see males here.

    My bird photos HERE

  • Yes I have noticed a good number of Chaffies this year too Paul, also a couple of Greenfinches which are good to see. I was about to stop feeding for the summer when all this upheaval kicked off so I continued just with the one feeder to keep me occupied. Now I don't know how I found time to do anything else, it will be strange to leave the house for an hour or more and Sue my dog will no doubt demand to come with me. Uke playing dog coming up lol.

    Lot to learn

  • That'll be a sight to look forward to Gaynor ... just don't let her become more proficient than you! Lol

  • Fab shots Tony, must have sent a chill when she looked at you directly!
Gaynor, I've seen a real dearth, since we moved. Used to have several in the garden, now its a thrill to see and hear them when I'm out and about.... and certainly looking forward to the vid thread with you and Sue duetting!!
  • Good video Michael, well done.

Lovely photos Tony, that stare indeed!

Can't wait for that video Gaynor!

Linda, you like me will have to still be content with the 5 mile limit for leisure, at last we can visit a garden now with two households, but only 8 people. Me thinks a long wait until we get that nice lunch out or a drink in the pub though!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

  • Magpies and tender!

Somehow, they don't seem to go together, but they do, and fabulous photos Linda.

If Sturgeon does let us out today that will be us all at real speed. lol

Gotta start somewhere and pigeons just always seem to be there wherever you are

When she does it'll be worse than a free-for-all, I'd stay locked in.

It's been murder here, because many folk are going to places they wouldn't normally, but because their places are still closed, they've nowhere else to go!

  • A lucky shot, I wasn't actually setting out to get a flying squirrel, and at such close proximity, I didn't expect to get anything other than the apple tree laves!

  • wonderful shot and timing Mike, well done. That just proves how crucial the advice of moving feeders around 2 - 3 metres away from any launch pad !!
