Add your "Odds & Sods" here thread ... 2020

Starting with a first for me ... Sparrowhawk in neighbour's garden here in quarry, only ever seen a seemingly lost youngster many years ago!

Grabbed ID vid footage through d/glazed door, then battery died & by time I'd replaced it to go outside for better res a delivery driver stopped next door & frightened the bird off!! grrrrrr

Hope it's a one-off for the sake of my Spadger horde!

  • Many thanks Wendy, and for the warning !!! I used to have the app on my iPad - which I've since given away. We could see distant flights going into Man.airport from our last garden so tracked a few planes in my idle time waiting for the non metal birds to appear lol

Hi Catlady,   we've been shuttling the bits and bobs we have here to the new place and may move in tomorrow so we can just return Friday to give the rental a final clean before handing the keys over.    Will feel pretty strange I am sure as we haven't lived in an apartment for over a decade (when we sold our house in Australia and rented in the city of Melbourne before returning to UK).      We haven't been able to get any real jobs done with lockdown restrictions like window blinds, light fittings .........and the wretched carpet   LOL    but I'm sure we'll just take things in our stride like we used to as ex-pats living in the various countries and locations.     Hopefully it won't be too much longer till manufacturers get back into production.    We have enough to keep us going and all appliances are in ..........as is the internet, landline and utilties.      Will keep you updated but its still  a work in progress  !

post edit:   well I never, just after I replied to you Catlady,  the mobile rang to say the furniture store may have our carpets by the end of next week and they are trying to get the carpet fitter organised to fit it in hopefully the week after that -  YAY  !!    never thought the mention of carpet arrival could bring such joy    lol

  • Excellent news about your new carpet, Hazel! Best of luck with everything else. Have you ordered blinds for that south-facing window yet? More summer weather might turn up, possibly sometime before October--lol!.

    Kind regards, Ann

  • It all seems to be happening then Hazel, carpets and all!! At least you can have a cuppa and a sit in a chair to keep up to with us on here, seeing as you have Internet!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

  • Thanks all,  we'll take the last bits over tomorrow and may then stay our first night there so we only have to return to rental Friday morning to do a final clean and tidy as there will be another tenant moving in shortly.    Will be nice to finally be in our own place but will take a while before we can call it home - it's more a smart portacabin at the moment  lol    @ Ann,  yes window blinds were ordered before lockdown so they shouldn't be too long arriving.

Took a few more pics of the courtyard birds as we'll have to say cheerio to them on Friday but all birds seem to have raised very successful broods and I treated them to the last kilo of mealworms so now they will have to do a bit more foraging for themselves which isn't such a bad thing now they have decent sized chicks, most of which are independent.

and finally goodbye from Tree Sparrow and all the courtyard birds,    thanks for viewing.

  • Well just came on in time it seems if you are leaving tomorrow Hazy, all the best to you and Mike and hope you manage to settle in albeit without a few of the luxurious items ....lol . Love those last few photos and have been reading back to see what I have missed, don't know what I have been doing, it is so easy to get distracted these days.
Take care and look forward to hearing about your new life up there on the third floor:-)

    Lot to learn

  • Many thanks Gaynor, it will be sad to leave the courtyard birds behind and I even saw a Pied Wagtail on the roof today when we returned from one of our shuttle trips from the apartment. Will be a busy time from tomorrow but I'll try keep an eye on this community site when I'm sitting in our new empty lounge/dining/kitchen echoing room lol        Think my brain has gone on lockdown as I just tried to register my new washing machine and drier after taking pics of the serial numbers on my mobile yesterday, only to find I must have accidentally deleted them when I cleared a few pics out last night   LOL    don't know if I'm on my head or my ............A-hem  !!
