So, I conclude as follows: I 'know' Magpies. I like (a lot) Magpies. I see Magpies every day (and have done for years). I've had a fair number in my hands (intervening to save youngsters from predators or caring for adults). I even, last year, started to draw Magpies (and, to that end, photographed them a lot, but in a kind of impressionist way, you know). But while I know about the iridescence, I've never, ever noticed that their tails can appear bright green like that.
Next thing you'll be telling me that ducks can change their plumage and that all buzzards don't look the same as one another.
