I was pleased to get a photo of a Firecrest (Really hard work it just wouldn't keep still) at Sand Bay (Opposite the Commodore Hotel in the overflow carpark).

Thank goodness for Back Button Focussing (BBF). I managed to keep focussed on it while it flittered around between the trees/branches. Occasionally there would be a small clearing where I fired off 2-3 photo's but it would be looking in the wrong direction or be partly obscured and even in a dark spot. Eventually that less than 1 sec opportunity arose and got the shot I was after. 112 photo's later and only 1 good photo.

As soon as I got out the car I heard what I thought was either a Goldcrest or Long tailed Tit (high pitched bird song) I hear the call often but can never tell the difference. To my surprise it was a Firecrest. How lucky was I.

What an absolute beauty Paul, I've only seen one once, possibly twice but we do get Goldcrests in our garden most days now.

Amazing photo Paul, we get them in the garden around now but I rarely get a half decent photo. As you say, they never stop still long enough & this time of year there isn't so much light either.

Gorgeous photo, Paul. I've seen one once many years ago, appropriately in the grounds of RSPB headquarters, Sandy.

Paul,a lot of of us in our area would be quite happy just to get a good view of a Firecrest never mind get a great photo as they can be pretty scarce for us. Well done on the picture and thanks for posting.
