TJ : Apparantly the juvenile stage, which I saw here, overwinters & the adult stage is May to August, which is different to Preying Mantis.

I know there's a spider thread somewhere, but it's not easy navigating on my mobile device.
Anyway, the help request is to identify the spider in the pic below.
It looks to me part of the orb family and yes, it was as orange as ity appears in the pic.

It looks a very strong possibility after looking at the Araneus quadratus online, and seeing the tell tale four spots.

The only other desert photo I have is this one in addition to the other, so hopefully that'll help.
Tricky really, not quite the right angle & has Peak Rambler across it! LOL Possible Araneus diadematus, Common Garden Spider.
