Very cool, Wendy. They look so very exotic! I can't wait to see if you can catch their emergence!

Oooh dear ... Just realised I posted about the Peacocks on wrong thread ... will transfer over!
Sorted now!
WendyBartter said: As you know I did pop Mrs Angle Shades into a jar & she laid eggs (that was on 15th Aug) ....... now the day of reckoning has arrived!! Lol Egg cases looking empty The bottom of the jar Hard to get any detail yet as not in good position but didn't dare try to move eggs in case of damage, so impossibly tiny! Pleased to see they are finding their way onto young Bramble leaves (spend a fair amount of time cutting spiny ribs out for Oak Eggars so will just have to do more now!) No wonder you don't bring any home H! Lol

Was quite a challenge to gather up these lively little, no more than 3mm, critters on to plastic spoon using soft paintbrush!! Back in their pot with fresh leaves ... vanished already! Lol
Another new incumbent found on the underside of Bramble leaves I was feeding to various caterpillars
Wasn't sure which species so sent pic to Steve Ogden who replied next day with this info ...

Look forward to the photos of a WE then! They are lovely looking moths although I've never seen one

Was lucky enough to have one visit my trap at local nature reserve on 16th June this year, extremely lovely moth
Just catching up with your exploits Wendy & good to see your Angle shades are still growing (although a bit slow)!! Good luck with the White Ermine too!
Best wishes

How are your Angle Shades Wendy?
I've been busy just rereading & doing final checks on all the colour plates of our Moth catalogue. It's with the boss now for final sorting before it goes off for printing or whatever happens next! Such a relief now it's done! I've had a few traps lately & an early bird for the time of year, good old FEM, a new place too,
Unfortunately my camera broke halfway through so it's with the mender at the moment. All of a sudden I had black photos. I looked it up on-line & it could be the captor so fingers crossed it's not too dear.Lucky I had the old D90 with me as a spare.
Then my repaired Nikon macro 105 had a fault of the Auto-focus, 2 days after the warranty on the repair ran out. So I think it's a bin-job. Nikon don't want to know despite having repaired the same fault twice in the 4 years I've had it! Ah well, c'est la vie!
I'm meeting a couple of moth lads (they are older than me!) at the sand dunes tonight for a 3 trap extravaganza. It's 1h30 drive away so fingers crossed for some goodies.
Phew H ... busy, busy & doubly unlucky with your cams!
Lovely FEM pic though, geometrically very attractive! Have become involved in searching for leaf mines on various plants, impossibly tiny larvae, pupae & moths to get decent pics of!
Will your publication be available online, can look at pics & layout even if can't read the text!
My Angle Shades larvae are growing although still very small, they have a habit of hiding in all the dead/dried leaves & I have to sift through everything several times before I jettison ... always a surprise to find out how many, about a dozen which took me so long to find that I forgot to take a pic! Lol
Just been checking up & read that late broods will overwinter as caterpillars and pupate during the spring ... they have to be 45mm to pupate & mine are only 10/12mm largest with some quite a bit smaller!
