  • Evening Stuart and Kate,  thanks so much, I saw two of the Bullfinches today and managed a few quick pics of one of the males which I'll try put up later or by tomorrow.

@ Kate ......   I use a Canon 7D mkII  with a Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM    It's a nice combination which gives greater sharpness than my older 70-300mm lens but like a lot of Canon gear, comes at a price which makes the eyes water  lol          I'd forgotten about the pastry recipe I put up !   the birds certainly do love it and its a good and more affordable way to supplement the expensive bird seed.     How lovely to hear the Song Thrush,  it has to be one of my most favourite birds to listen to with that huge range of beautiful songs.

  • Thank you Hazel, will pass that on to daughter..

Like you we have a wonderful collection of Wildlife, including a family of Hedgehogs and mass breeding of Slow worms, although a protected species, someone forgot to tell the neighbours cats doh!!The Birds quickly establish a calling/warning system, usually starts with Robins, then Tits then Blackbird/Thrush, followed by the family of Hedge sparrows, and then Humans CHOL:):)and whilst the Hedgehog tries protection with prickles their young unfortunately become fair play, the poor Slow worm can only wriggle.Am really hoping this year will still be prolific.

  • Morning Kate, your garden wildlife visitors sounds fabulous and good the birds send out the early "cat approaching" warning  !   I wish your daughter good luck with her photography, it's an enjoyable hobby - especially when there's a blue sky and sunshine as a backdrop   lol

  • I've always been afraid to try your pastry Hazy, with flocks of chaffinches only a couple of hundred yards away, once word got around we'd be eaten out of house & home. I love your Siskins, they are such a beautiful yellow. Cyril is looking a bit inquisitive I think.

    Best wishes

  • Siskin are still around Hazel but no sign of Wilma Wagtail so maybe she's off to find a nice secluded spot for the breeding season later.     As for pastry, the chaffinches love the pastry too although rarely get chance with the Corvids nipping in and scoffing the lot  lol

  • Your Sparrows look a greedy lot Wendy! There was a male towards the end that swallowed a pellet whole & then pulled out another & flew off with it!!Amazing! Lovely to see the Grey Wagtail too.

  • Thanks Gaynor, was quite difficult to keep up with GW!

So pleased you enjoyed Spadgers aitch & good to know that Wilma soon came back, wanted her mealies!

Hadn't seen that extra-greedy Spadger before you mentioned H, they were actually quite well behaved again today, not always like that!
