I've got a bit of white and grey on my feathers but I can't seem to pull the birds!

What a cracking bird! Jackdaws look great anyway at this time of year but he's ahead of the pack!

Here are some not very good pix of a jackdaw that visits the garden.
Its just the wing feathers that are white they are also longer than the normal jackdaws wing feathers so it gives him a very grand look as he struts from one feeding site to the other.
Now if only he would turn up in the middle of the day so I can get some half decent pix I will be happy :-)

Chris, I brightened one of your Jackdaw pics so we can get a better look at him - hope you don't mind.
As the individual feathers are only partly white, this looks like a case of environmentally caused pigment loss, perhaps a nutritional issue at the time those feathers were growing. I've seen a lot of Carrion Crows with the same thing - it's the longest feathers that tend to be affected ( suppose as they have the longest growth time). Sparrow's Jackdaw, on the other hand, probably has genetic leucism, as it has scattered wholly white feathers.

Urmmmm now you can see the knicker elastic holding the lid on the fatball feeder lol.
We do have about 7 jackdaws around here all normal and very handsome but he will be our special one then that you for the infomation on the cause.
