Global Traveller

One of my regularly walks when out at Titchwell is to the beach, last Autumn I decided to try to get some shots of any early migrants being pushed up the beach by the incoming tide. On the tide line there were a number of small groups of Sanderlings accompanied by one or two Turnstones all showing remnants of their breeding plumage. One of the groups I photographed contained a bird sporting a number of rings and flags on its' legs. Intrigued by the rings I was keen to find out a bit more about the bird, after a number of emails to various notable institutions. I received information from a research group in the Netherlands of its travels. It would appear that it was ringed in Ghana (2010) has flown up to the Arctic, possibly bred up there and on this occasion was most likely on its way back to Africa for the winter. So far it’s flown the best part of some 10,000 miles. Its full and up to date life history and travels can be found at http://adwimages.co.uk/Blog/global-traveller/
