No, we are not running a creche!
It's an invite to all MOTH-ers, whether new to moth-ing or expert, to come down to the reserve and take part in our free 'Marvellous Moths' event. We hold it every Wednesday morning (until 1 September) outside the visitor centre. The event starts at 9.30am and we look at the moths caught the night before in our moth trap. You don't even have to book, just drop in as it suits.
We have held the event for the last few summers and have an inceasingly loyal band of followers. Moth-ers are a friendly bunch and in addition to our own resident experts, we are also very lucky to have help from Peter Clark whose moth-ing experience goes back several decades!
Moth-ing is a very relaxing pastime and we have some very beautiful moths and some even more exotic sounding names such as Herald, Burnished Brass, Old Lady or Drinker. Almost any where will hold moths and most gardens are capable of attracting dozens of different species for you to identify over a breakfast cup of coffeee. The moths are not harmed in any way by the traps and all are released once out of the trap. If you would like to find out what moth-ing is all about then why not come along on Wednesday mornings to see what's about!
STOP PRESS...from 19 July we are holding an additional moth morning every Monday at 9.30am until 30 August.
Hi Kathy
Don't despair! We sometimes run the trap on a Friday and Saturday evening if we are working over the weekend. Recently I have sat outside the visitor centre and showed everyone our catch. If you pop into the centre and ask if we have run the trap, if we have had it out we will show the contents.
See you soon
Paul
Hi Dave
I would to attend your Moth event but alas I am only free at weekends at the moment - if it was on a weekend evening that would be another thing.
I am sure that you have managed to see a fabulous mixture of Moths too.
Best wishes
Kathyx
