The weekend of September 19 and 20 is going to be one of the busiest for Titchwell Marsh this year. Not only are we supporting the Marine Conservation Sociey's Great British Beach Clean Up but we are also holding our very own Optics Fair!
Marine pollution in our seas and oceans is no longer an emerging global environmental concern...sadly, it's very well established and going to be an ongoing issue for a considerable time. Plastic pollution in particular, driven by an increased demand for production, is accountable for the widespread demise of marine life and sea birds. Globally, nearly 200 species of sea birds are at risk from ingestion or entanglement or both! As a coastal reserve, with a plethora of resident and visiting seabirds this is an area of considerable concern for us. In order to better understand any threats and potential negative impacts on our seabird population we need to monitor the debris being deposited on our shorelines. On Saturday September 19 we will be conducting a beach clean up and survey along a stretch of Titchwell's beach and recording the debris found. High tide is at 10:25 am so the best time to join us will be a couple of hours later, however, early birds can fill their time visiting our exclusive optics event.
Over both days of the weekend, representatives from Leica, Zeiss, Swarovski, Kowa and Viking will be on site, offering various promotional deals on their products. This is an ideal time to bag that special Christmas gift or update current optic equipment. The Optics Fair will be running from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
