On a perfect day- more like mid-summer than autumn, I took a walk across the new heath yesterday to take a look at how the re-profiling work on the slopes is going on. The banks have certainly changed appearance over the last few weeks and are looking really good. The contractors are busy transporting the soil to create the invertebrate and viewing mounds on the heath and the major work should be completed by the end of next week.

As the diversion trails across the new heath have been so popular, we will probably leave these open over the winter period, although cyclists will go back to using the Buzzard Trail route direct to the shop and bridleway.

On my way across the trail through the new heath, I spotted the female stonechat that has been around for a week or so now, linnets jangled over and a brambling was wheezing from a tree top along the drive. Earlier today, the hobby was seen again and a pair of ravens flew over. It could be even warmer tomorrow, so don't put the shorts away just yet!
