A week of chilly winds from the north has slowed migration, there does look to be a window of opportunity on Thursday and Friday with light winds predicted to have a southerly orgin. This could be the chance some of our returning summer migrants are waiting for.

A spotted flycatcher however did make it through to Wesy Canvey Marsh yesterday, where the male cuckoo continues to call. A caspian gull and mediterranean gull were seen from scrape hide on Friday.

At Wat Tyler Country Park two marsh harriers and two turtle doves continue to be seen from the motorboat museum hide, while a cuckoo can be heard near holly cottage hide. In the creek from the marina a summer plumaged spotted redshank along with  a whimbrel and greenshank have been seen recently.

On Vange Marsh the drake garganey remains and favours the north-east corner of the freshmarsh also present are green sandpiper and greenshank. There has been an increase in house martin and swallow numbers, while at least three cetti's warblers can be heard.
