Tickets are now on sale for the Shetland Nature Festival.
Some events are ticketed or require booking, others you can just drop by on the day. Check out the website to see the programme and find out how to book your place.
It seems a long time ago since we started the Nature Festival. We even won a Shetland Environment Award in recognition of the successful first year back in 2008 and get a mention in Simon King's book on Shetland. The whole idea of the Festival is to celebrate our nature, from plankton to puffins, rocks to lochs. It aims to encourage folk to share the experience together, and hopefully to fire up an interest to pursue a life long interest in the environment.
Our friends at Shetland Amenity Trust are now the lead partners in the event. We're delighted with the success it has become and look forwards to the new format of the 2011 Festival. This year there will be a series of "Open Days" around the islands, and again it runs in conjunction with European Geoparks Week. So, whether you want to know more about extinct volcanoes or phalaropes, there's something for all ages, abilities and level of interest.
