This seasonal weather has hung around for quite awhile now and whilst looking delightful on Christmas cards and decorations, the effects have been highly disruptive. The Lakeside Hide was closed again over the weekend due to the cold temperatures and no matter how many 'layers' you are wearing, you're going to feel the cold!! The hide will remain closed until such time as we feel our volunteers can stand the ambient temperature.
Underfoot the conditions are worsening daily and rock salt seems to have little effect. The paths remain icy and tricky to negotiate so if you are planning a walk around the reserve then please take care.
The weather forecast is for much of the same all week so we may have to make arrangements to meet next year. It is our intention to try to open the hide over the festive period but this is very much down to the weather and the volunteers' inclination.
Next year will prove to be an exciting time with more events plans, further redevelopment developments and possibly a total reserve face-lift - watch this space!!
In the meantime, have a peaceful Christmas and a healthy 2011.
See you on the reserves,
Best regards,
Chris Edwards
