Staff and volunteers contributed towards this countrywide event and over the course of the last two days were responsible for the completion of over 30 nestboxes!
Using pre-cut kits, prepared by our volunteers, visitors to our reserve on Sunday were able to make their own nestboxes in the comfort of our education room. Fast forward 24 hours and two of our hardy volunteers braved the chilling drizzle to help visitors to the Manor House Museum make their nestboxes. During the course of the day over 20 nestboxes were built and taken away, we also ran a workshop making food to put in log feeders. By lunchtime we had run out of logs and resorted to plastic drinks cups!
Many thanks must go to the museum staff of Rachel, Rachel and Jane for their hard work in setting up the day and I musn't forget the sterling efforts of our volunteers Paul & Tony. Not only did they help prepare the nestbox kits but also the log feeders. Add to this the fact they remained outside all day helping the visitors and this was above and beyond the call of duty. Good stuff all round.
The day at the Manor House Museum was so successful, we intend to help them with a number of other events over the course of the year!
See you on the reserves,
Best regards,
Chris Edwards
