Having thoroughly enjoyed our visit on September 22nd we felt that a second visit on our way home from Scotland just had to be done. Limpy had booked the mobility scooter (the lovely big Tramper!) and we headed out. We beelined for the Saltholme Pools hide as we'd had some great sightings there the previous week.
This time the incoming geese were greylags. They were suitably noisy!
A beautiful little egret.
Lapwings live to have mass panics. They are such an easily spooked bird.
The inevitable pied wagtail.
The unknown bird amongst the wagtails turned out to be a wheatear!
The wagtails seemed all right with a stranger in their midst.
No merlin today but a kestrel is hardly unwelcome.
Falcons are beautiful birds.
One of two ruffs to come within range of our cameras. I'm chuffed to bits that I managed to ID them.
Being a photographic model clearly doesn't excite this one.
Looking a bit more awake as it heads off.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
