Saltholme well supported

It was very good to see Saltholme well supported by the public last Saturday on our trip there with the Newcastle Upon Tyne RSPB Group, by the public at large. During the afternoon the car par was quite full and it was good to see adults and children alike visiting Saltholme on a very cold but dry sunny January day. At the end of the afternoon the tearoom in Saltholmes visitor centre the queues where quite long waiting for drinks and food and it was good to see the cafe so full. We did manage to get a table but not one by the window overlooking the lake with all the Wildfowl. It's superb the visitor centre. Probably the largest RSPB visitor centre on any RSPB reserve. The highlight of the day birdwatching was a Jack Snipe and a close up view of a Long Eared Owl roosting. A few of us also made our way to one of Saltholme's satellite sites about 10 minutes walk away from Saltholme and that was Dorman's Pool.

How I wish we could get some RSPB reserve's in other parts of North East England such as Northumberland although the RSPB do have little Coquet Island off the Northumberland Coast, I would like to see a few more on the mainland of Northumberland that the public could visit.
