Water Vole

Took a visit to Saltholme today to show my daughter Sarah around. The weather was rather cold and overcast making few opportunities for taking photo's, we were in the Wildlife watch point hide waiting for the Water Rail to re-appear when my daughter spotted a small brown creature in the grass just in front of the window. I had great trouble seeing it but finally caught a glimpse, and saw it was a water Vole. Because it was so close to the bank in front of the window I couldn't get a clear shot, so my daughter took off her shoes and stood on a chair and managed to snap these two photo's, not the best owing to the vegetation, but enough for an I.D I think.

She was still on the chair when A hide warden came in, and when we told him he was ecstatic Lol and within five minutes the hide was full of Saltholme staff. Unfortunately the Vole vanished into the grass, but at least its presence has been noted thanks to Sarah.

Good photo's under the circumstances.
