The dry weather continues which is good for spotting Damselflies. Lockhart saw this Common Blue on Saturday.

The last two segments on the abdomen - that is segments 8 & 9 - are both blue and there is a black circle on segment 2 confirming that it is a Common Blue and not an Azure Damselfly. Thanks to Dean for the technical information.

Look for these in the Wildlife Garden and along the Dragonfly path. We have cut a path round the back of each of these Dragonfly pools so it is much easier to see them, but the water level is very low due to the lack of rain over recent months.

With young birds needing food the Tree Sparrows are foraging all over the reserve and have been seen near to Saltholme Pools Hide as well as their usual places at the feeding stations and the trees near Watchpoint hide.

A brown head and black marks on the sides of the head identify it. We have a good population breeding on the reserve.

Thanks to Lockhart for the photos.
