A number of weeks ago the estate team were improving the view that you see at the wildlife watchpoint hide. Last winter a channel was created by removing a section of reeds and opening up the view, as the summer is coming along the growth was obscuring the open area. Now the water levels are really low it should be a place to see great wildlife up close from the hide.

Now the view has been improved I went back to the wildlife watchpoint hide to see the water vole that has been very photogenic for some people. As I have said the water level is lower than it usually is for July, my blog video will show you what I saw from two visits to the hide including water rail chicks and water vole.

You might be able to hear clattering in the video – this is from the young starlings squabbling for food and landing on the roof of the hide.

You can see water voles, bank voles and wood mice from the hide looking at the feeding area. If you are visiting Saltholme we would appreciate donations of whole carrots and apples so we place it in the feeding area, for our hungry water voles that have a big appetite!
