Discover something new during a family-friendly day out in Teesside, at RSPB Saltholme near Middlesbrough, with our exciting ‘Look and Learn’ weekends running this September.
Round up the family and head out on the A19 to spend a day at our beautiful nature reserve nestled in the heart of the industrial North East, including the steel works and Transporter Bridge, and see what birds you can spot that call Saltholme their home.
Between Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th September, our hide guides will be on hand to help you identify the different species of birds inhabiting our ponds and reed beds. Can you spot a kingfisher or maybe even a kestrel?
Then, after your adventure out into the wilds of our nature reserve, why not head back to the visitor centre? Here you’ll find fun-filled hands-on crafting activities for all of the family to enjoy, like helping us to complete our big owl collage.
Alternatively, why not give our build-a-bird actives a go? Giant magnetic jigsaw pieces allow you to create a flight of fantasy and let your imagination run wild. There’s no need for accuracy here – we want to see your wild and whacky crazy bird creations. The bigger, the bolder – the better.
After all of the fun-filled activities, you’re bound to be ready to relax and unwind before you head back home. Our café offers a wide range of great tasting savoury snacks and sweet treats to help you boost those energy levels up again. Sit back with a cup of tea and piece of cake and enjoy the panoramic views of the nature reserve from the café’s viewing gallery. It’s an ideal way to end your day, and you never know, with your new eagle-eye for spotting birds, you may even spy another species or two from the comfort of your chair.
Find out more about RSPB Saltholme and where you can find us. Entry costs just £5 per car for non-RSPB Members and is free of charge for RSPB Members. Some actives may incur and additional charge. We hope to see you at the reserve soon!
