Hi everyone,
The RSPB has been bringing schoolchildren of all ages outdoors and closer to wildlife for years now. Saltholme is no exception - thousands of children have already visited with their school. They've had the chance to get face-to-face with the wonderful wildlife that lies in the heart of Saltholme's industrial landscape, right on their doorstep.
If you've visited Saltholme before, you've probably passed the Discovery Zone on the way to the wildlife watchpoint. With its boardwalks, pond dipping platforms, minibeast areas and wildflower meadows this is where your class can learn and experience nature first-hand. Inside, there's an inspiring classroom that is yours for the day.
Saltholme's got an experienced team who'll tailor your visit to whatever your class is working on. Schools that have visited Saltholme have studied science, literacy, sustainability, numeracy, geography, art ... I won't go as far as listing every subject, but you get the gist.
Secondary teachers, Saltholme's for you too. The sheer size of the reserve offers many surprises and opportunities right the way to GCSE, A-Level and beyond. Talk to us to see what we can offer.
The Living Classrooms pages on the Saltholme website are being spruced up at the moment, but if you'd like to book and plan your visit for this spring or summer term, contact Caroline as soon as possible. Give her a ring on 01642 542073 or email caroline.found@rspb.org.uk
I'll keep my fingers crossed that you'll see the peregrines that sometimes drop in at Saltholme – how many times can your class go home saying they've seen the fastest animal in the world?
Ben.
