It’s been a busy week here at Saltholme during half term, and we hope you’ve been enjoying the festivities as much as we have. We’ve been thrilled to see so many of you coming along and getting stuck into the welly season antics that we had prepared, and you’ve certainly been very enthusiastic about the events. Visitors young and old have been along to try their hands at crafts, walk the trails and take part in competitions, and what a fantastic job everyone has done!
The welly wanging contest has been as fierce as we expected – some of you threw your wellies so far that we had to count them as out of bounds, we suspect some parents got a little competitive with each other! The longest throw within the arena went to Nick B, whose flag sat proudly ahead of all the competition at 17.45 metres. Well done to you, Nick. Come back next year and see if you can retain your title as our welly wanging champion. We should also mention those who came second and third: Jenny R at 15.5m and Julia at 14.95m! Congratulations to you and to everyone who took part in the welly wanging showdown. Here is a clip of some of our competitors:
Our classroom is now packed full of fantastic welly artwork. Whether you took part in boot blinging, welly prints, welly bird feeders or another wonderful welly creation, you all did a wonderful job of taking those dull green wellies and making them colourful artistic masterpieces that we’ve all been enjoying. You used every crafty material we could muster: stencils, beads, feathers, jewels and glitter and glued them all to your boots. Now we can splash around in the mud in style! The Duke of Wellington would be very proud.
Our welly wish tree has also been filled up nicely this half term. Our tree now looks like it has been sprouting wonderful welly fruit all season long! Many of you have made a wish and hung your welly on the tree, so we're hoping they all come true. You never know: the rare welly wish tree is a magical being...
It's been a wonderful half term, and we're really glad so many of you have been getting involved. Don't forget that welly season is still ongoing so you still have time to come and have a go at blinging your boots, wanging a welly or making a wish.
Enjoy!
