With the summer break drawing to a close, we thought we'd pack a whole load of water-themed activities into the final week of the school holidays to provide a fun filled family day out which is sure to keep kids of all ages entertained.
Celebrate the world of water with a week of water-themed activities at RSPB Saltholme. The ponds at Saltholme are teaming with life so why not explore all that our water world has to offer?
Grab a family pond dipping kit and discover the creatures that live below the surface of the water, listen as the creatures living in the reed beds put on a show and be entertained by the chattering songs of the warblers and our other resident birds. You can also shelter from the weather in our Wildlife Watchpoint. While you're there, why not see if you can spot any water voles hiding in the reeds too?
Look out for amazing common hawkers whilst pond dipping (Many thanks to Mark Stokeld for the photo).
Then, when you're finished exploring the great outdoors, head to our classroom to make a model pond skater or a recycled water drinker feeder of your own.
And don't forget, on Wild Wednesday, we will be running facilitated pond dipping sessions, so that you and your family can learn more about the fascinating world of water wildlife.
We have something for the whole family to enjoy at Saltholme this summer, from wonderful wildlife to fun family-friendly activities and delicious food and drink in our cafe, not forgetting our amazing adventure playground. As entrance to the reserve is just £5 per car or free for RSPB members, a day out to Saltholme is great value for money.
We hope to see you at Saltholme soon!
