Saltholme ‘giving nature a home’ links with conservation of nature and the environment and that is something that I’ve always wanted to work on and I got the chance two years ago when I started college and as part of my qualifications I had to gain experience in my related subject.
Over the two years I’ve volunteered with the estate team, whilst I was at college, each month there has been something different to do on the reserve so you get new tasks to do over the year. A number of those weeks have also been tasks I’ve blogged on here. You might have read about the winter floods or when we have been on the cockle shell islands or even the first lambs born of the year.
Volunteering at Saltholme is a great way to do what I have and met lots of great people as well as learnt a lot from being part of the team who have different experiences and knowledge.
If you want to volunteer at any RSPB reserve you can look on the volunteering page link here and find the details to get in contact and start volunteering. Some people volunteer for a few hours in the week and some people volunteer for more than one day in the week.
It is my last week volunteering and blogging for some time because I’m moving to university to study animal conservation and at the same time the reserve goes into its sixth winter since opening, who knows what wildlife will drop in at Saltholme in the next few months with the habitat management from the estate team at Saltholme.
