After failing to get any bird life into the garden since we moved here, ( Hundred Acre Est) in Hoddesdon, I had put a post on here for some help, hints and tips,, and have recieved some good advice.
Just waiting for some globe bird feeders to arrive ( let the smaller birds in ,keep the larger ones out), I thought it was time to prune a tree that we have in the garden to make way for the feeders,, having got everything ready and then settled down with a nice cuppa on the patio to admire my handy work,, well blow me down,, over a period of around 10 mins, into next doors tree and onto a nut feeder that he has"nt topped up all winter,,
1x Blue tit, 1x Robin,, and 2x Goldcrest ( never seen them before),,
Can"t wait to get the feeders here and set up,, might see if I can talk the neighbour into leeting me put a few bits in his tree as well, as long as I offer to fill them up each time.
So for me,,,maybe not to others,, a great day,,
Hi rolandb, we live in East Herts and can assure you there are loads of birds just waiting to jump on your feeders!! There are also lots of grey squirrels, so you need to protect your expensive bird food from those little rascals too... Good luck with your birding.
Best Wishes, Rosy
Hi Rosie and thanks for the message,, yes plenty of birds, its just the attracting them to the garden that I"m having a bit of trouble with.
Anything I"ve put out before has always been mobbed by the starlings and magpies, the smaller ones never get a look in.
Have bought 2 globe type feeders that will stop the larger birds from getting at the food, its now just finding the right places to site anything so it can still be seen from the house.
Also a neighbour 2 doors up has 2 cats that walk along the fences at the back,, wondering if I can find and buy some sort of wire fan that will fit over the fence to stop them walking along it ??
TTFN, Roland
Hi Roland,
Sounds like you are doing well! It does sometimes take a while for the birds to find your garden when you put food out for the first time.
Good luck with the globe feeder, I'm sure that will be good!
