Hi,
I managed to get down to Rye Meads today and had a great day!
I saw - I think - the male Kingfisher, which was around mainly in the morning. Got some photos but nothing to write home about.
Also seen: Kestrel; 2xBlackcaps; 2xReed Buntings; 2xShelduck; 2xGadwall; Grassnake; Grey Heron; Bluies, Greats and Long-Tailed Tits; Peacock - Small White - Comma Butterflies plus all the usual....
Had a great chat about Antarctica with the guy on the door - sorry, didn't get his name!
Will try to get down again soon....
Best wishes, Graham

Hi Graham
Glad you enjoyed your first visit to RM. It really is a fantastic reserve with many excellent observation hides.
Also pleased to hear that you got plenty of sightings, including the kingfisher!
Did you see the kestrel whilst at the Kingfisher Hide? That's where I last saw it, (9 days ago). It did a quick inspection of the top nest box on the pylon, before flying off again.

No, I saw it just as I left the Tern and Gadwall Hides. In the Gadwall Hide I saw the 2 Shelduck......
Hi Graham,
Thank you for your kind words about Rye Meads! Im glad that you had a good time at the reserve!
Im glad you saw the kingfishers - they are being quite co-operative at the moment! Im not sure what the kestrels are up to at the moment - I saw one in the owl box at the Draper hide, and one in the box on the pylon next to the visitor centre.
The chap that you spoke to about Antarctica, that sounds like Rex to me - he will be coming in later I will mention that you said you had a great chat!
Thank you for letting me know what you've seen as well!
Louise
