Hello All
Just a quick round up of some recent happenings.
The numbers of green sandpipers on the Draper are increasing with 9 on 12 July. As the vegetation is getting quite tall and blocking the view in this area the work party is out there today cutting one of the islands (which has been thoroughly checked for nests before hand) to offer better habitat for passage waders, as well as better viewing for all visitors. Key passage time is not far off now so keep any eye out for something unusual dropping in ie greenshank dropped in 15 July.
The kingfishers are incubating their third brood. The male was seen investigating the new bank on the draper for 8 minutes on Sunday, which is lovely and a good omen for next year. The Black-necked grebes continue to show well from the Gadwall hide although the female has become a bit elusive, when was the last time you saw her?
With the warm weather damsels, dragonflies and butterflies have been doing well with brown hawker and empereor added to our list in the last week. The water vole continue to much through the apples and muntjac are seen along the trails.
Thanks
vicky
