Welcome to November
As it is the first of the month I cleared off our sightings board today and spent a couple of hours on site too see whats about so i could add some up to date sightings to the empty board. After a couple of hours I ended up with 48 avian species and a few non avian, these included rabbit, water vole, red admiral, common darter and a Hawker species that i did not catch up with quick enough. Bird species on site this morning were little grebe, cormorant, grey heron (3), mute swan (27), canada goose (42), mallard, gadwall (108), shoveler (134), wigeon, teal, pochard, tufted duck, kestrel, pheasant, water rail, moorhen, coot(257), lapwing (67), snipe (7), green sandpiper (2), black headed gull (170), common gull (6), lesser black-backed gull, stock dove, wood pigeon, kingfisher, green woodpecker, great spotted woodpecker, pied wagtail, grey wagtail, wren, robin, blackbird, cettis warbler (4), great tit, blue tit, long tailed tit, magpie, jay, crow, starling, chaffinch, green finch and gold finch,
Highlights were the contiued presence of the lovely male pintail, a very cute gold crest showing well, a few redwing mixed in with a group of black birds feeding on the berries and a chiff chaff singing which is always nice.
