There's been a couple of post recently about the woodland path, but things are changing quickly!

We have a section of the woodland that has been closed (the bit that I've circled on this map)

We've been removing sections of the boardwalk that have started to rot (ready re-build at a later date), and we are creating and extending the gravel path (this week we had 40 tonnes of gravel chipping delivered!)

The digger man was in yesterday, getting everything ready for the 40 tonnes of gravel to lay a hard surface...

Yesterday some of the team headed out to start on the 40 tonnes of gravel:

They put down a weed proof sheeting and then started wheel barrowing the gravel into place, and raking...
Here you can see Emma (our Learning Officer), Nicole (our Warden), and Jen (the Active in Nature Development Officer) and in the background Andrew (the Site Manager) have been wheel barrowing, and raking the gravel...

Our Site Manager raking some of the gravel...

Looking after a nature reserve, ensuring that it stays a great place for  wildlife (the wildlife comes first!), and for people to see that wildlife takes a lot of work.

Replacing boardwalk and extending the gravel path is going to take us a while. We've made a good start - but we would like your help to finish even quicker!

We need some help wheel barrowing, shovelling and raking gravel - on Friday 11 September we will be having a Public Volunteering Day: help us make a path and we need you!

If you are free for a few hours (or the whole day - it's up to you) on Friday 11 September it would be greatly appreciated.

PPE (boots, tools and equipment) will be provided, but please bring weather appropriate clothing. Meet at the Visitor Centre at 9am. You could bring lunch - depending on how long you would like to help us for (a couple of hours or the whole day, any help is appreciated!)

Please email jamie.smith@rspb.org.uk to let us know if you're coming along - so we know how much equipment to bring along!
