The last few days has seen the continued movement of Arctic bound waders with Knot, Grey Plover, Bar-tailed Godwits, Sanderling, Greenshank and Whimbrels along the foreshore. Common Terns (which breed locally) have been quite scarce but small parties of graceful Black Terns and bouyant Arctics have been seen. The latter on their way up the English east coast and beyond and the former back off east to the lakes of middle Europe.

Hobbies are still partrolling for insects and the Marsh Harriers have been seen occasionally.

Swifts have descended on us in the last few days and are zooming around our heads along the river wall while the first Wall Browns and Brown Argus butterflies are now on the wings. Walls are declining nationally so our little population on the marsh is very important.
