The work has continued apace on the de-vegetating the Purfleet Scrape and to re-profile the islands and bunds.  It may look a bit drastic and bleak but the birds are already returning and Ian the Master Scraper JCB driver from Pearls, has been using his machine and bucket like he was delicately icing a cake. A real pleasure to watch.  I think that we might give his details to Paul and Mary for next year's series....

Flocks of pipits and wagtails have been following in his wake in the same way that Yellow Wagtails follow cattle and Cattle Egrets follow elephants..... while the Greylags are back and munching their way through the many exposed tubers.

Before too long the water will rise further and most of the work will be come invisible and we shall have to wait until the spring to see the proper results of all this work...
