Good morning,

How are you all today?

I just wanted to tell you a little about a brand new event that we ran this summer - Potions and Pies for the under 5's.

One of our fabulous Field Teaching Interns Julie is an expert in the Early Years Learning, so this summer she planned and ran a couple of events for our youngest birders!

Potions and Pies was some seriously messy fun (and people didn't event need to worry about clearing up) making mud pies, making natures paints, make some herbal modelling dough or a natural collage to take home.

The group started with a little walk, looking at creatures and collecting natural materials to create fabulous collages.

After the walk Julie showed everyone the activities and away they went!

We had big buckets of mud, water, grass and more - encouraging the children to get stuck in and have fun!

We had collected some materials to make natures paint - so the children mixed natural materials together (blackberries, and mud were the favourites!) to make paint.

The children made collages from natural materials...

Made smelly modelling dough - Julie had made some hand made dough and the children mixed in some lovely rosemary or lavender to make their dough smell great!

Everyone got stuck in and got their hands (or more) dirty...

We had great fun, and I think so did the kids!

Thank you so much to everyone that came along we hoped you had fun!

Keep an eye out for any more activities for the under 5's on the events section of the Rainham page, or you can borrow a brand new activitity sheet fopr 3-5 year olds to help you explore nature with your children (you can borrow one from the reception desk).
