What a gloomy day!
Doris decided to stay at home today and continue with knitting Christmas present scarves and let Phil out to play.
The Photographic Hide had already been hired out for the day so he decided to help Howard and Andy with a spot of gardening around the car park. It was Andy’s first day volunteering too and Howard is still looking for more volunteers help to tackle the autumn and winter jobs ahead.
They set about pruning back the Willows around the car park edges which will make driving around safer and encourage more light into the edges and promote understory growth.
It is always amazing just how much biomass the autumnal pruning creates and we have amassed quite a heap to be taken off to our giant compost heap!
There is still plenty to do over the next few months with lowering the trees behind the Centre feeding station and along the river wall, mowing the car park meadows, tidying up the laid hedges, revamping the old pond area and tending the Wildlife Garden beds!
The weather has now closed in and proper rain looks imminent and Phil was reluctant to get any more damp (or rust) into his already arthritic joints…
