Hi everyone,

I hope that you are well!

It's been a great few weeks for amphibians, reptiles and mammals - well all sorts of wildlife actually! We even had a new species of damselfly for the reserve earlier in the month (click here for the whole story)!

Recently lots of people have been coming in to the centre saying they've seen (and taken some fabulous pictures) of our brilliant common lizards! They are amazing creatures.
Simply stunning! Lovely shot by Alan Shearman

Alan (who took the picture above) was telling me that he found out more about the lizard using a new app "Dragon Finder".

The app is really good. You should check it out - after chatting to Alan I had to download it myself. You can identify amphibians and reptiles, record sightings, and find out more about the individual species (including where they are found, ecology, life-cycle and eggs and larvae of each species, tips, listen to recording of calls and record the things you see!)
It's really easy to use, and so useful to take out and about! If that's not good enough the app (for iPhone and android phones) is FREE!

To find out more about the app, and how to get it on your phone, look here.

The app has been created by the organisation Froglife.
Froglife is a national wildlife conservation charity concerned with the conservation of the UK’s amphibian and reptile species and their associated habitats. Froglife’s vision is a world in which reptiles and amphibian populations are flourishing as part of healthy ecosystems. They strive to make practical differences with our education and conservation teams working on-the-ground to restore and create vital amphibian and reptile habitats.  Together we are encouraging as many people as possible, from all walks of life, to get involved in wildlife conservation. For more about Froglife check out their website: http://www.froglife.org/

See you later!

Lou
