The 40 mile off-road ride from London to Southend is ideal for those new to mountain bike events or those just looking for a different ride - and passes through the lovely Rainham Marshes!

The ride follows a lovely route of tracks, trails and unmade paths to get you from the edge of London to the vibrant seaside town of Southend.

This event is a great introduction to off-road riding organized by the British Heart Foundation. London to Southend off -road is perfect for leisure and new off-road cyclists who like a bit of a challenge. The route uses mostly traffic free cycling on cycle paths and easy going off-road trails, through picturesque countryside. Don’t expect an easy ride though as this 40 mile route still provides a tough challenge and steely determination to get you to the coast.

Starting along Ingrebourne Valley, passing through Hornchurch Country Park and out of the city, you’ll continue on a tranquil trail through Rainham Marsh (giving you the chance to refuel with tea and a bite to eat, and use our facilities), with wonderful views over the reserve, city and the river.

After the quieter lanes around Basildon you'll wriggle along leafy bridleways through Benfleet, emerging at Hadleigh Castle Country Park to stunning views of Canvey Island. Then it’s just a drop down through the Olympic MTB course before a steep climb past Hadleigh Castle to finish at the Rare Breed Centre at Hadleigh Farm, in Southend.
