It has been agood week for window watching from the centre with daily wader and wildfowl action over the marsh with clouds of swirling Starlings too, as they club together to avoid the attentions of the Marsh Harriers, Peregrines and Sparrowhawks. As ever the view changes by the hour with the panoramic landscape changing by the hour as weather fronts, cloud, rain and sunshine blow through. The vista comes and goes and the London Ciityscape can shine on minute and disappear the next...
On Tuesday the Shard was shining silver in the early morning light and a curious white blanket of of what we presume to be evapourating moisture streaming out from the opposite side with the wind taking it away and high into the sky... very curious.... and happy to have any other opinions as to what was going on...
and then there was this morning.....
It was dull and overcast but the sun was sneaking through and caught hold of the Shard and just like the two occasions when it has similarly caught Canary Wharf, it blazed into dazzling life looking like a quite real Towering Inferno...

On a less likely note than smokescreens, that predicted easterly airfront that has finally come in (brr) might 'push up' the residual warmer air & create vapour?
Cheers Howard
Hopefully I will catch it with the towering inferno look one day.

Great photos especially that last one was that catching the sun riseor the early sunset?
I got a similar shot as the first onesbut without that mist effect on one of my visits there.

It must be some kind of smokescreen, as for example, when at the Battle of the River Plate a British cruiser laid down smoke to shield its retreat from enemy attack. Perhaps this overtall building is being shielded from flying saucer attack? Just a thought.
