It is amazing how quickly the contractors have shifted the soil that made up the bank! In fact it looks quite weird from across the reserve as you can now see people of the boardwalk while the view from the river wall is even more telling and you can actually envisage the new sparkly hide sitting in the gap.

The new hide will be to the right of the digger facing the same way that you are looking at the photo

There is so much work going on on the marsh at the moment but we are trying to get as much done as possible before it gets too wet and also to cause as little disturbance as possible to the wildlife and visitors.

Work is continuing apace with the predator proof fence around the whole of Aveley with posts rapidly appearing in the ditch that has already been dug. The fence will go down someway into the ground as well as having electric strands on the top.

Those parts of the trail that flooded in previous winters have all been raised this week although there may be some disruption while they finish off the section between the centre and Marshland Discovery Zone but it will be worth it for the sake of dry feet later on.

And finally but not least we also at long last have a new path through the Cordite Store Woodland which has been laid with minimal disturbance to this unique environment. At least there will be no more falling over in the mud anymore and everyone (including wheelchairs) can now make use of the loop.
