Couple of good shots by Jamie Croft yesterday of a Rock Pipit and our female Pochard with the blue nasal saddle. This band actually has numbers on it but they are proving very difficult to read. This is another way of marking birds so that we can see where they come from and how far the travel. Sometimes they put coloured rings (as well as a metal one) on their legs for the same reason. Some of our Icelandic Black-tailed Godwits are marked in this way. I have attached on old Marsh Matters with the history of one such well traveled bird.

Can you see the Black-tailed Godwit with the yellow ring? And that is a Redshank in front just in case you were wondering! (Dave McGough)
