Hi everyone,

My name is Louise, and I am the Education Officer for Rainham Marshes. Nice to meet y'all!

Now I'm at Rainham this weekend, and it's such a lovely day and we've seen loads already this weekend I wanted to share with you what's been around... So I've broken into the blog to share it with you (don't tell Howard I broke in, it'll be our secret!)

So far this glorious bank holiday weeknd we've had fabulous sightings of:

Kingfishers (they are busy feeding young over at the Marshland Discovery Zone - it's a great chance to see these stunning birds! The hide is open from 11 am-3 pm every day - what are you waiting for!)

Lots of small birds: reed warbler, sedge warbler, cettis warbler, white throat, blackcap, cornbunting, chiffchaff, blue tit, great tit, long tailed tit, robin, dunnock, goldfinch, greenfinch, house sparrow, wren, starling, and blackbird.

Waders: common sandpiper (at the barges), oystercatcher and redshank.

Water birds: shelduck, mallard, gadwall, tufted duck, grey heron, little egret, mute swan, coot, and moorhen.

Birds of prey: hobby, kestrel, peregrine, and marsh harrier

And: cuckoo, swift, swallow, great black backed gull, yellow legged gull (at the barges), sandwich tern (at the barges), arctic tern (at the barges), common tern, kittiwake (flying up the river), fox, grass snake, watervole and a whole host of insects!
